Presentation
On the 30th of March 2004, thanks to exceptionnally good weather conditions, a scientific flight was carried out over different areas of Svalbard. This flight is part of the AIRSPEX project work for the AGF-331 course, in UNIS. This course deals with remote sensing and spectroscopy, and the purpose of the flight was to collect data from spectral imaging instruments.
This website presents the results of the data analysis for two well known areas on Svalbard, the scientific station in Ny-Ålesund, and the russian settlement in Barentsburg. Both sites present great interests for spectral imaging, since the former presents complex sea ice structure, while the latter, due to coal exploitation, shows big contrasts in spectral response.
What is spectral imaging?
Persons involved in AIRSPEX 2004
Similarly to the previous AIRSPEX airborne campains, Dr Fred Sigernes was leading the project. Assistance for the preparation and during the flight was provided by the students attending the AGF-331 course.
