30-03-2004 : Ny-Ålesund
The first area observed was the sea-ice close to the scientific station of Ny-Ålesund, north of Longyearbyen.
The analysis of the data collected enabled us to get information one could be given by normal eye-observation.
30-03-2004 : Barentsburg
The second area observed concerns the city of Barentsburg. This russian settlement is focused on coal exploitation, thus making the area of great interest for spectral imaging observations.
16-04-2004 : Low-altitude over Longyearbyen
On the 16th of April, a low-altitude flight was carried out over the Longyearbyen area. The purpose of this flight was to test Dr. Fred Sigernes instruments designed for small details image caption (basically ship immatriculations) and transmission to an Internet server via a satellite phone using the FTP protocol.
This flight was far beyond the scope of the AGF-331 course, and it will not be given any further description.
