Courses in Computer Science, Roskilde University
AHCI: Advanced Topics in Human-Computer Interaction (preliminary course description)
Advanced course: Runs full time the last 4 weeks of the semester
The aim of the course is to make participants familiar with issues,
techniques, and
concepts that are central to the selected area of HCI
and thereby to the design of usable
systems.
The course is a continuation of the HCI course, during which participants
– individually
or in groups –
have chosen a system and evaluated it.
This evaluation is the starting point
for the course on Advanced Topics in HCI.
Participants work with one of the following
topic areas in relation to the system they have previously evaluated:
Topics:
- Visual presentation of information: layout of screens and presentation of information
that, for example, results from information retrieval.
- Interaction mechanisms: navigational elements and means of inputting text and
selecting objects, for example by mouse or on mobile phones.
- Online collaboration: virtual teams, online communities, and technologies for
supporting their activities.
Background
An introductory course in HCI; at best the HCI course given at Roskilde as
AHCI continues case studies made in that course by the students.
