MKM: Modelling and Knowledge Manage (preliminary course description)

The purpose of this course is to give the students core skills in modeling and implementing IT system. Focus is on modeling of both data that the system should contain and on tasks that the system should be able to solve. Requirements are seen from a user perspective. Thus it is of key importance to understand the difference between reality and its representation in the system. The students will first develop a models of IT systems and second build an IT system based on the model in a development environment. Finally they will obtain knowledge on the development process; how it is organized and managed.

After the course, the students will be able to:

• Plan and carry out development of an IT system by use of agile techniques.
• Create a data model and realize it in a simple database.
• Use different modelling techniques Ð relational, logic, UML and Object oriented
• Design, build and test a database with diverse objects.
• Discuss knowledge representation for a specific problem.
• Describe and use a systems development process.
