In my project I investigate linguistic aspects of the use of English as a lingua franca at Danish universities.
The PhD project is associated with CALPIU, a research network which was established in 2007 to prepare the ground for an international research Centre for Cultural and Linguistic Practices in the
International
University.
The CALPIU research centre has recently been granted DKK 7 million by the Danish Research Council for Culture and Communication (aka The Danish Resarch Council for the Humanities). This sum will fund CALPIU’s activities as a research center over a period of three years starting August 2009.
In my research I investigate various aspects of the structure and use of Danish and English. I'm particularly interested in contrastive studies of the two languages, both on the level of language structure and language use.
My approach is largely based on the framework of Danish Functional Linguistics, however, I also draw upon insights from areas such as pragmatics, text linguistics, the Scandinavian polyphony theory, conversation analysis and interactional sociolinguistics.
Apart from these various fields and subjects I also take an interest in a number of other areas, including translation theory, in particular in relation to subtitling and dubbing, multimodality and typography. |
