update march 16 2010

so... it's been almost a year. what's been going on all this time?

well, not a lot. the project has been put on hold for the unforseeable future because of a general lack of interest and discipline amongst the collaborators that signed up for the project. a small handful were enthusiastic and raring to go; most weren't. such is life.

i still harbor desires to see the project come to fruition. there are still 10 tracks ready to go, and it would be a shame to waste them. it requires the right set of people, however, and the sort of people i'm thinking of (creative, experimental, musical types) are seemingly a rare breed.

check the description of the project below. you can listen to the songs in their initial states with the mp3-player to your left. if you're interested in participating, please drop me a line.

sincerely,
troels pleimert
(executive producer)

about the project

the baby jake harvey skull fracture is an experiment in collective creativity. a varied group of musicians work together in sequence to produce an album of music.

  • stage one a person (satellite) receives an unfinished track in multitrack form (several wav-files of equal length)
  • stage two the satellite reworks the unfinished song as he/she deems fit: rearranging, adding more instruments, tweaking existing material, but not deleting anything that has been previously done
  • stage three the satellite finishes reworking the song, still leaving it unfinished for the next satellite in line. he/she sends the song to the next satellite. the next satellite begins stage one
  • stage four once the song reaches the end of the cycle, it returns to its point of origin (me), where it is added to the finished track list - no editing, no finishing, just mastering

once all ten tracks have completed the four stages, we have an album on our hands: one that will be as much of a surprise to the musicians themselves as to the listening public.
